Sheet Metal Bin - Add Flange

Hello All,

 

I am working on a bin type unit, and am having trouble creating a flange, I am creating the bin in the final product stage, then I will separate into manufacturable components. I am having trouble adding this flange around the top 4 edges of the bin. I need the four corners to meet on a miter 45. I will then rip down each seam and have 4 separate panels.

Is this a bad workflow? Is there a better route?

 

I attached the part in Inventor 2013 format,

Hi Sean,

 

In my point of view its better use the skeleton method.

All you have to do its a volume with the sheet metal body, than derive them to a new sheet metal part.

After that you can draw over this surface model. Take a look. Its what you need?

One quick question, how to did you insert the skeleton into the sheet metal part,

I used derive and the icon is different than yours:

Because, when you insert the skeleton in sheet metal you dont choose the Body as Work Surface option.

You must choose this option if you skeleton model also have solids

Okay... this is my first post and I am very new to the program Sean posted this on my behalf.

That being said I can't understand how to get a part for the side that would have a flat pattern that looks like THIS using this method. I understand how to get as far as you have.

I did not derive and split this up to see if it would unfold.

 

You could also use the skelton surface method and trim the miters in the surface.

 

Pull down the EOF. (red End of Folded marker in the browser)
