Save Copy As Autocad DWG

Hello,

I used to be able to save my .idw files as an autocad .dwg, then be able to open and edit them in autocard.  Now it seems that I can only save as inventor dwg and I am unable to edit the drawing in autocad.

Does anyone know how to solve this problem.

Thanks

You can 'Save Copy As' an AutoCAD DWG.  However, this will break the 'link' to the Inventor model.

Inventor DWG's, can not be 'edited' inside AutoCAD.  You can add dimensions, but they are not parametric.

When I go to Save Copy As, I only see inventor dwg., not autocad dwg.  I realize this will break the link to the model.  I am trying to send my drawing to someone who only has autocad and needs to edit it.

Thanks

Use Export>Export to DWG rather than Save (Copy) As. It will still default to the Inventor DWG, but you can change that to AutoCAD DWG.

Which version of Inventor are you using?  I have 2011, and I have the option to 'Save Copy As' an AutoCAD drawing.

I'm not sure if he missed it, but the OP has already said above that, AutoCAD Dwg doesn't appear in his list of file types when he goes Save Copy as.

Tysonwitte: can you provide a screenshot showing us the file type list in the Save Copy as dialogue?

The OP stated in a post:

"I have 2010 ( I have not received 2011 yet).  The export files as button is greyed out on my machine??  Thanks"

Looks like he was trying to export, not Save Copy As.

Attached is the screenshot.  The autocad .dwg option is missing, only the inventor .dwg is shown??  I wasn't sure if there is an option somewhere that disables this.

Thanks

Thats really unfortunate. I can't remember without readin gback through this thread, but if you are on subscription you should definately submit this, or contact your reseller.

I'm guessing it will be a registry key setting somewhere, or try reinstalling autocad.

here is my screenshot as comparison
