SURFACE AREA CALCULATION

A vendor called and wanted to know what the total surface area of a part is for gold plating purposes.

Does Inventor take into consideration the exterior and interior of the part surfaces since all surfaces are to be plated. I attached an image of the part. Also what in the area box  please explain the meaning of 14.025 in. arrow 2. Is that scientific notation or exponent raised to the power of 2?

Thanks

^ means "to the power of" so, in the area box, it means inch * inch or square inches

If it were written in scientific notation, the answer for the area would be 1.4025E1 in^2 while that for the mass would be 3.4E-2 lbs.

- - - -

The surface area reports the total area of all surfaces (even those which may be totally enclosed inside the part body) so care should be taken when using it as a reference for painting or plating estimates.
