Right and left hand iPart

I have created an ipart and want to create a right hand and left hand option of that part.

I can mirror the features involved and suppress the mirror feature for the the RH part and so the RH version looks fine.

BUT if the mirror feature for the LH version is in the compute state I get both handings showing.

How do I suppress one handing and leave the other for my RH version

Is it possible to do this using the assembly mirror tool?

Would help to know the version of inventor you are on. There are new options in 2013 than in 2012 or 2011.

For right hand and left hand features...I will typically mirror the opposite hand in the sketch itself. Then extrude, cut, etc the left hand only, share the sketch, and then put the features on the right hand. Then it is really easy to include/exclude each hand in the table.

That's how I work it out. However, I'm always open to an easier method if someone else has a different way. 😄

Ok thanks not sure but if you make a multi body LH Can you suppress the solid bodies in the ipart table?

If not you can use ilogic with your ipart to do this.

Can you attach example file here?

Thanks for all the replies and help but I'm new to Inventor and you're asking me to do things I know nothing of.

It's quite apparent to me that Inventor falls down on the simple things. Mirror images in an ipart should be a basic requirement.

What's funny in those statements?

Can you attach an example file?

Ahhh, I just read this in another post you made, "I don't know how to post files."

Find the Red End of Part marker at the bottom of the feature tree of your iPart.

Drag the red EOP to the top of the browser hiding all features from the graphics window.

Save the file with the EOP in this rolled up state.

In Windows Explorer right click on the file name and select Send to Compressed (zipped) Folder.

Respond to this thread (on the website, not email) and click Browse below right.

Browse to the zip file location and Attach it here.

Thanks. Here's a simple part I'd like mirrored as an ipart. The shaft at each side being the part I want mirroring.

This part is symmetric and it's not an iPart.

My fault clicked wrong part. Here's the ipart. I want the shaft either on the left or the right using iparts.

Please note this is a simplified parts for explanation purposes only. There would be other features in there so as it wouldn't be symmetrical.

Exactly. I'll take a look as to how it is structured. Thanks.

Strange I can't replicate it in my model. Yet it all appears the same.

Edit. I realise what it is now. Solid body mirrored not the feature. Thanks.

No problem.

I would still consider trying out mirror parts in the assembly. If nothing else, just so you have an alternative method in your pocket of tricks.
