Reorient Triad

In a part file, how do I rotate the part around the x axis by 90 degrees so that the triad's y axis becomes alligned with what is now the z axis on the triad?

Right mouse button Redefine first sketch might be a solution.

Hi fsfguy,

In addition to JDMather's suggestion to redefine the first sketch, you can also use the Move Bodies tool to do this:

There's more on this technique at this link:

I hope this helps.

Thanks!  I really appreciate the solutions!

@Curtis - I read the link you listed, if I want to move to a specific point on the part rather than the center of gravity, is there a way to get the coordinates for a specific point?  Btw, I really appreciate your book, it lives next to my computer.

Hi fsfguy,

Thanks for supporting the book, I'm happy to hear that you find it useful.

Selecting a vertex with the Distance measure tool (Tools tab > Distance button)  should give you its location. In this image a 10mm cube is centered on the origin point, so measuring one of the corners gives the results shown. You coud also create a temporary sketch or workpoint to find the location of some point that does not have a selectable vertex.

I hope this helps.
Best of luck to you in all of your Inventor pursuits,
Curtis
