RTTI data error rears its ugly head once again

So it would seem that the No RTTI data error would have been solved by
now... but it hasn't.

AutoDesk listen up. This needs to be fixed. An undo, that cannot undo
properly is of no use.

I'm designing away, making changes, then decide "Hey, I should save this as
a different part and keep my original... but I want to roll back some
changes on the original." Okay, so I save a copy in its current state, and
then go back to the original part and undo about 10 levels deep. Up to this
point is where my fit doesn't change and I want to save it. No RTTI data
error comes up.

Inventor crashes.
No crash error report window shows up. (Second time today that I had a crash
to desktop - different operations each time)
Posting here.

When trying out various concepts, actually doing some real design work on
things that have not been done before, undoing, redoing, saving as, etc, are
very common operations. This bug in the program really brings down
productivity / creativity.

So quit making a UI that nobody wants, and adding features that no one will
use, and instead fix fatal bugs that have been around for years that slow us
down.

I have only encountered this error when working on a file that had not yet
been saved. What conditions was this file being worked on?

I had the part open, its parent assembly, the overall assembly, and a couple
other parts. All parts had been previously saved.

After making a few changes, I saved as to a new part. Since it was open in
a parent assembly, the original part stayed open. I decided to roll back a
few changes on the original part and save it. That's when the error came
up.

The "new" part had enough changes that it would not be constrained properly
in the overall assembly. I don't know if the original part was rolled all
the way back to its previously saved state, or if I just reached the undo
limit. There are plenty of things to keep track of, with software crashing
not on the list.

I get this error even when I do nothing, no save, no undo etc.
I think it depends on how you are sitting on your chair at the time.
That's it! Maybe I should stand and work.
Seriously though how many bugs do we have to endure with this software?
It's only been around for 20 odd years.
If someone has an answer for this error please let me know.

Thanks

Inventor has not been around for 20 years. Ten is more like
it.

I have only encountered this RTTI data error once, and that
was when I deliberately tried to create the issue. And yes, I am networked to
other systems. Save often and you should not encounter this. Do you have your
workspace on the network server?

Can you to post or send your data set and work flow so we can try to
reproduce this particular issue? The "Access violation - no RTTI data!"
message really means "this isn't the thing we were expecting", and we
need to track the causes down on a case-by-case basis.

Sorry, I was referring to Autodesk in general (20 years).
Inventor has been around for more than 10 years, just under a different name.
I am working from my local c drive, not networking at all.
And by now Inventor I would have thought should have an automatic save built in.

Thanks

The assembly is made up of many components, so could be problematic send to you.
Also the work is copyright protected.

Thanks

Can't recall, but Autodesk are just a marketing company who buy up software developers and re-lable them.
Much like most large corporations do in todays world with buying technology and intellectual property.

I do recall. It was Buzz Kross's company and Inventor was just
starting development. The concept looked promising, and Autodesk bought his
company. Something like 25 Million was poured into Development for about 2 years
before Inventor version 1 was released. Doesn't sound like Adesk bought a
finished proiduct to me.

It would seem that Autodesk would take ownership of this RTTI issue, they said it was my workstation, they claim it is not reapeatable, but I have more than one data set where this is a repeatable issue on more than one workstation now...and yet here i sit with no solution and a couple of assemblies with thousands of parts but they are useless....

I just got it again. . . not undo-ing, not saving. I was in a sketch on a drawing view and selected a line. That's all. just clicked a line. I clicked a previous line, and edited the properties and then went to the next line, and PFFT!! that was it, NO RTTI DATA and everything froze, couldn't exit the sketch, couldn't close the file, had to abort the program and lose the last hour of work. Luckily, I have been saving at least once an hour because this has been happening with increasing frequency. I'm on a brand new system, and never had this issue on my old system but I've seen it at least 2-3 times a week for the past month, and I'm seeing that it is mostly us Autodesk users having this issue (as opposed to anyone using windows) which places that bug on the software developers' shoulders to fix. To me it sounds like people are just guessing at what is causing it, but its a data memory issue, not a function specific error. Somewhere down the line, the data we are creating is getting corrupted or just vanishing and when our software goes to retrieve it and can't find it, it has a stroke. hm...... well at least this time it happened right before I shut down for the day. . . Good luck everybody
