Got your files, thanks.
The material names you added in the Styles Editor have to EXACTLY MATCH the
name of the material applied to the part in order for hatch by material to
work.
In your part, go to iproperties > Physical tab and note the applied material
is "Cast Steel", which is not listed in your drawing styles editor (Standard
Style > Material Hatch Pattern Defaults tab).
You can add this by hand ("Click here to add"), or select the "From File..."
button and that will read in all of the cached material names in a selected
file (much less error-prone).
Once you do that, the hatch right-click menu option for By Material will be
enabled, and if you forward-created another cut view, the appropriate hatch
pattern would be applied automatically.
Hope that helps,

I have follwed the help topic to set up my material hatching. As far as I
can tell anyway...I have set up new mat'ls in my part temp and set up new
styles in my idw temp. But when I hatch something no matter which of the
two places I try to set the hatch to by material, it is grayed out. any
ideas?
Thanks a bunch
