Newbie Alert !!!
Simply importing old (.dwg) files (drawn with autocad 2008) into inventor 2012
it then converts my units into mm for me ...handy... not they are already mm and it thinks they are inches
so e.g original drwaing is 50mm tall, inventor then changes that to 1270mm
Please help driving me up the wall. lol
I Installed inventor and config for its default unit to be in mm
so what am I doing wrong??
Solved! Go to Solution.
Attach original dwg file and the resulting ipt file here.
What I will immediately check is the -dwgunits of the original dwg file
the Tools>Document Settings>Units of the ipt file
I will try bringing in the dwg into the ipt file myself and see what units the Wizzard detects.
My personal preference when converting is if I'm converting a dwg that was drawn in inches I select the ENGLISH TAB then STANDARD INCH IPT. I then go through the usual Manage tab, import select the file type on the first page then select the INCH option in units on the second page.
By doing this the only problem I now have is that I keep getting told that MDT needs to be installed for this operation, it has been since 2008. But that's Inventor for you!!!
In Auto Cad 2008 I
then enter enter enter confirm yes change scale units blah blah
and i configured inventor when installing to be set by default to work in mm and confirmed this
by document settings-units so
where am i going wrong???
When I run -dwgunits on your dwg file it indicates it was done in inches.
When I Import the geometry and change the units from the detected units of Inches to the Intended units of mm and then reset the Tools>Document Settings>Units to mm in Inventor the dimensions read correct.
BTW - this appears to be a sheet metal flat pattern.
Flat patterns are almost never done correctly in AutoCAD.
Model in finished form in Inventor rather than folding this.
