Prompt for "Save As" on part placement

Hi

I have an interesting case I need to try and solve.

When a part files is placed into an assembly I need a "Save As" dialog box to show where a new name can be defined and the part placed into the assembly with the new name.

The reason for this is that there is an existing library of iLogic components and these are placed into assemblies and when automatically renamed are causing cross-referencing issues.

Here is an example:

For “Assembly 1.iam”

  • Foot support.ipt (iLogic part) is placed
  • Foot support 01.ipt becomes the name of the first iLogic part placed in the assembly
  • Foot support 02.ipt becomes the second one and so on

When placing “Foot support.ipt” in “Assembly 2.iam” (Same project)

  • Foot support 01.ipt becomes the first iLogic file placed

Now the parameters in the two “Foot support 01.ipt” are different and therefore different parts are created with the same name, causing the cross-reference issues.

The "Save As" dialog will avoid this renaming issue.  Will this be possible with iLogic or will I have to look at other tools?

I have also posted in a similar thread here.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

What Inventor version?

Are you using the "Place iLogic Component" on the Assembly tab?

Hi Karthur1

I'm using Inventor 2013 and when I place the part from the "Place iLogic Component" it still automatically saves as explained with the incrementing number.
