Project shortcut disappears

I have a made a specific project file for a project I'm working on called
BR2.ipj. The workspace is on my C: drive and the project file is there too.
Inventor is set to look for project files in a network folder called G:\Path
Files and I put a shortcut of the BR2.ipj in the that folder. Everything
worked fine. When I wanted to work on the BR2 project, I found it in the
project window of IV and selected it. When I was done with this project for
the day, I went back and selected a different project to work on and
continued with my day. The next day, I went to work on BR2 again, and the
project was not listed in the dialog box. I checked the G:\Path Files
folder and the shortcut was gone. Okay, I made a new shortcut and put it
back in G:\Path Files and everything was fine. Next day, same thing. The
shortcut was gone again! Why does this happen?

Mike,

Do your BR2 model files "live" on the server or locally?

The idea behind the IPJ path in App Options is to assign a (local) place
for the shortcuts to "live".

The actual IPJ should exist with the model files (usually on a server)
with the "browse" button in the Open Dialog (projects icon) used to find
the actual IPJ. IV automatically creates a shortcut in the IPJ path
called out in App Options.

If IV is allowed to create and place the shortcut properly (as designed)
it should stick and be available in further sessions.

I *believe* that if you use Explorer to find a IPJ and double click the
IPJ to start IV, IV will fire with that project active, but it will NOT
remember (or place a shortcut) where you "found" the IPJ in later
sessions.

Quinn,

> Do your BR2 model files "live" on the server or locally?

My IPJ lives with the BR2 models on my local machine. My
Tools\AppOptions\File\Projects File points to a folder on the network called
Path Files. (Old carry over from IV2) The shortcut for the IPJ in the Path
Files folder disappears, but not the IPJ stored locally.

After reading your reply, I tried deleting the IPJs and created the IPJ over
again and having IV assign the IPJ and its shortcut to the proper folders.
It seems to be sticking this time. We'll see if it's there tomorrow.

Thanks for the help.

Mike
