Project Flat Pattern Issue-BUG?

Has anyone run across this issue?

  1. Create a sheet metal part from the default English template.
  2. Create a rectangular face of any size
  3. create 2 flanges on two or more edges that meet in a corner.
  4. create 2 more flanges on the previous flanges that create mitered corners
  5. create a sketch on the far side, and then use project flat pattern to project the entire width of the 2 flanges
  6. Notice that Inventor see the reference edges as underconstrained geometry that requires 56 dimensions

This is messed up because reference geometry cannot be dimensioned, trimmed, or drawn in normal circumstances.....Oh and it's the "curve" portion of the ref geometry that is looking for dimensions, but they are not curves, the are little pieces of straight lines, and you can drag them around with the mouse....

I say BUG?

Do I get a tee shirt?

I will attach an example

Inventor Professional 2012 SP1

Win 7 64

Thanks

Alex

This is interesting - the projected geometry shows DOF and can be dragged.

Looks like a bug to me.

although a Rebuild All does send it back to where it belongs.DOF.png

Thanks for looking JD...

It seems to only happen when project flat patteren has to compensate for a curved edge...I'm surprised no one has had issues with this yet, or at least I haven't found any similar posts.....

Autodesk, what say you?

Alex
