Hi Steve,

Can give more details please. Why not create the connection? Any error message?

I have tried the coincentric method and it reconises the end of the shaft, the hole, but will not recognise the outer surface of the cylinder as a termination point.  It will recognise the end of the shaft but this means it is not tight against the surface

This what you want? Not sure what your intent is for the internal nut, assuming this is what your after.

NOTE: the M30-3.5 in CC has the wrong thread info. I inserted these as custom and fixed the thread.

How to apply a bolt to the outer cylinder surface, it would not allow me to select that face

Assuming you mean nut, just drop it anywhere and then pick size (in necessary) and constrain
