Have you checked these settings in Tools > Application Options > Drawing?

Thank you for your thorough response. I followed your instructions, and
replaced one of the two "Object Defaults" Styles, and then tried thickening
my visible lines.
However, the change was not reflected in my display, despite having "Show
Line weights" checked in App.Options->Drawing.
The thickened lines are displayed for brief flashes at random intervals, and
for a few milliseconds when I drag a view across the sheet and set it in
another location.
This behavior is the same whether I use my pre-existing drawing and styles,
when I open an example drawing, or when I use the default project, the
styles installed by Inventor, and a brand new simple cube created with the
freshly installed Inventor default part and IDW templates.
I'm not sure if the non-display of line weight is related to my printing
problem, but it seems likely.
