Post Processor

Can anyone tell me what post processor i can buy to go with
Inventor to generate a program? I have talked with some people all they want to sell me is a Mastercam package. Any
help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Wouldn't that depend on what machine you are sending it too. I mean for us here we have a laser machine, and don't use mastercam.

Some confusion there.

To generate the program you need a CAM package, of which Mastercam is an
example.

The post processor, as the name states, will process this program to be
understood by your CAM machine, therefore it will depend mostly on that.

Most CAM packages have some basic post-processors for most machines, but
nothing like a trial.

I suggest you generate paths for one of your parts on various CAM
packages and post-process them in resin or maybe wood (for speed).

Be wary of who you buy from. From experience, you'll be spending a few
moments with them to fine tune things for your methods/machinery.

You can find more CAM programs that integrate with Inventor here. Just
change the catoregories to "NC Manufacturing" in the drop down list to see
the CAM programs.

I would set up some demos with the resellers of these products to see which
suit your needs. I would get them to do their demo on your parts, and I
wouldn't send the files to them ahead of time. You can then see what is
needed to open and set up, and program the parts.

I have to give my favorite a plug, but like I said, try them first. My
company has switched to Gibbscam and are more than happy with its abilities
and Gibbscam's customer support. I know another popular one that has been
mentioned in this group is Edgecam.
