Place a component from opened files into an assembly

Hi,

I reciently moved from SolidWorks to Inventor and I'm currently creating an assembly and I was wondering if it is possible to drag and drop opend files into an assembly like in SolidWorks or you need to go and selected from its location using the Place menu?

Is there a way to place a component that is currently opend into an assembly?

Thanks a lot.

Hi fsdolphin,

  • Click the tab along the bottom of the screen to activate the source component (the part you want to insert for example).
  • Select the top level node in the model browser (where is reads: Part1.ipt for example).
  • Press CTRL + C on the keyboard
  • Click the tab along the bottom of the screen to activate the desitination assembly.
  • Note the postion of your mouse cursor in the graphic area of the assembly
  • Press CTRL + V on the keyboard (the component will paste in at your cursor)

Also, if you make the assembly window and the part window visible at the same time (View tab > Tile button), you can click on the top level node in the model browser and drag the part into the assembly.

You can also drag and drop from a Windows Explorer folder into an assembly.

I hope this helps.
Best of luck to you in all of your Inventor pursuits,
Curtis

All three methods you suggested worked fine. Thanks a lot for your help.
