Personal Preferences do not save

Hi, I've had a quick search, but didn't turn any thing up.

One of my users has modified the application options, (switched of grid lines, and minor grid lines), applied them, and worked on his project. When he exits Inventor, and re-starts it, the application options go back to basic default, (i.e. Grid and minor grid lines appear). I've checked the Read/Write permissions of The Program files folder, the program files x86 folder, and the path in his my documents folder, and all are OK.

I exported the application options, after tweaking them, and if I import that exported file, everything does as we expect, i.e. grid and minor grid lines are switched off.

Am I missing something? or where does the settings for application options be saved?

Hi,

In order for these settings to be saved, make sure that the edits are being made to the library template file.

To find out where these are saved, goto Tools\Application Options\File tab\Default templates. If you require different setting for individual users, it is my understanding that individual template files are required.

Hope this helps,

Stew

Application Options are not saved in templates?

The xml is saved in Preferences.

Thanks for the replies,

user has permission to edit the registry, has full permisions to edit and save the XML file, and the xml file updates itself when he exits Inventor.

Actually, these settings are saved in HKEY_CURRENT_USER
> Software > Autodesk > Inventor > (current version) > System
>

Preferences > Sketch.

If the user does not have sufficient priveleges, they won't
save.

file is located at C:\Documents and Settings\users name\Application Data\Autodesk\Autodesk Inventor 2009\Objects\Preferences.xml Edited by: biross@technip.com on Feb 23, 2009 2:43 PM

I see where Dennis is pointing us. Making a change to the Application Options does not change the xml.
Those settings can be exported and/or imported from/to the xml but the changes are made elsewhere.

I eventually got it "fixed", we did a complete un-install, and re-install.

Interestingly, we deploy from a common image, and we have had this on a couple of PC's, although it has been perfect on the rest of the (36). We have also had a problem with "dot net 3" but only on a couple of machines.

So, obviously, there is something different about the"couple"
machines Windows setup.

Thanks! We did get it to work by doing a uninstall, deleting all of the remaining files, and then reinstalling.

Not a permissions issue -- we first tried logging on as admin and even the admin could not save settings.

I know this is a 4 year old thread, but I could find no other mention of this.

I have same problem

Inventor 2014 - fresh installed by IT.

Will not save any preferences.  Cant even turn off the spash screen.

I tried running with admin privieldges - no luck

I looked into the registry but could not find any settings that looked like they controlled options.

I looked in:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Autodesk\Inventor\RegistryVersion18.0\System\Preferences

Which subfolder of this should there be to hold the options?

RELATED issue - My install was missing the ColorSchemes entry.

I found the color schemes and manually inserted in registry.

I have a network liscense - shared

Inventor saves its settings while exiting. If the process terminates unexpectedly (i.e., crashes), the settings might not be saved correctly.

Sometimes an incompatible add-in can cause instability. Consider using the Add-In Manager to disable all add-ins, then restart Inventor, and finally exit Inventor. If the settings are saved successfully, try re-enabling the add-ins a few at a time until you narrow down which one is affecting the Inventor shutdown behavior.

Good luck!

Thanks for the quick response.

this is a new install - I have no add-ins.

The options settings changes should save to registry when I press APPLY, at least accoridng to the help documentation

I have been triying over and over and it consistently will not remember option settings.

If I knew what registry keys these were saved in, perhaps I could create these keys and it would work.

Until then I am stuck with loading from configuration file every time I launch inventor
