Parameter driven text in IDW does not update

I remember this working for previous Inventor versions (I think).
But when you create a note in an IDW and insert a value from the parameters, the parameter should update in the text when the part is updated.
I think this problem is associated with the whole issue with drawings not updating properly in IV11 when a part is updated.
Any one else have these problems with text?

I see that some edits do not update into the IDW unless you save the
part/assy you made the edits to.

Yes, the parameter should update when the model is updated.

I tested this functionality and it seems to be working correctly. Can you
please post a specific workflow and possibly a data set? Also, please check
your Document Settings>Drawing [Tab] and be sure you do not have "Defer
Updates" enabled.

some parameters (user parameters) are not updated unless you save model part/assembly. it happens in inventor 2012, 2011 and 2010.
