Operating system suggestions

Could someone please advise on a "preferred" operating system for use with IV6? I am ordering a new computer and need to specify an OS. It sounds like our network administrator would like us to standarize on Windows 2000. Is this OK, or should I push for something else.

Thanks,
Brad

We use 2000 Pro just fine. Use Win2000 Pro server, too, if you can.

Dave,

Why do you recommend server? I was thinking of putting server on my
machine, but wasnt sure.

We had Novell server for a while. It had lots of problems with Win2000 Pro
Workstations, like couldn't have more then 8 characters in filenames, long
log-in times, etc. I only suggest Win2000 Server because that's what we use.
Don't know about others.

It's a toss up between Win2k and WinXP Pro. Some users say Win2k is speedier while WinXP has a lot of nice extras. I used Win2k and then upgraded to WinXP Pro and haven't seen any performance degredation and I enjoy a lot of the XP extras. IMO if you're going to spend the same amount of money on an OS you might as well get the latest.

I wouldn't run server for my IV workstation. That would just be extra overhead.
