I tried to open / import a STEP .stp file into Inventor 2012. I selected all of the options to Autostitch and Promote. But I noticed that I could not select Enable Advance Healing.
1) Is there a reason I can't?
2) is there a better way opening / importing .stp files?

Can you zip and attach the STEP file here?
If it doesn't open cleanly then I prefer to manually repair the geometry.
STEP file attached
Step file Zipped in Comressed file does not want to upload. Approx. 1.260 MB
Can I emai it Somewhere?
Hmmm, that is small enough that it should attach.
Send it to me directly jmather_at_pct_dot_edu
Resolved the problem by having my vendor send me another file, in a different format. (Parasolid Text .x_t file, their choice). I got a better model than what they sent the first time.
Over the years, I was always told that the rule of thumb was STEP files, SAT files, then IGES files were a preferred order for compatibility. Has that theory changed? Is there a preferred order? Just curious.
STEP should be best as it is a neutral format (IGES is too, but I would probalby request as last, there is nothing really wrong with IGES, except that users don't know how to save).
The other formats are really proprietary (owned by companies like Dassault or other).
I know of no reason not to get Parsasolid binary rather than Parasolid text (the file size would be smaller).
Whatever works. I would wonder why they can't create a valid STEP.
