New hard disk

I have installed a new hard disk, doing an exact copy of the old one.
Inventor 6 requests a new autorisation code.
Is there a way to solve this problem or have I to requests a new
autorisation code?

I gather you dont have a US-licence?
Welcome to the C-dilla beast.
Your intuitive and customer-friendly licence-manager.
(did anybody otice the irony?)

2 options:

1) Reauthorize. Could take a couple of days.
2) With the NEW HD, write down the "machine Identification code" in the import tab in the "Portable licence utility" (PLU).
Then, with the OLD HD, (and valid licence), start PLU, and export your licence to a new machine with the code you wrote down. Save transfer file to floppy.
Swap HD again, and start with NEW HD, and import licence!

Good luck, Jorgen

The autorisation code depends on the
serial# of the harddisk. So you have to
request a new code.

Yeah, been there, done that, said all the dirty words I cold find!

Search this newsgroup for "jorgen c-dilla" to find out what I really mean about this silly #¤%%¤¤¤.

I still vote for bringing it back in the US-licenses to get some real debate about it.

Life is hard in the mountains...

Jorgen, I'm dealing with cdilla and standalone and
network licensences, and I must confess, that I like it more than the old
hardwaredongle. It simply works as expected.

If I had a choice, I would prefer to have unlocked
licenses though.

I have never been keen supporter or locked licenses. If you need 3D CAD for
serious purposes, you need to buy the package in order to keep up to date,
get the support, etc.

By using dongles (soft or hardware), Autodesk inconveniences us, the paying
users. If the dongles solved the problem, it would be one thing, but
cribbed versions of Inventor appear within 3 months. A friend told me about
getting his 5.3 cribbed barely 5 weeks after I boasted about receiving my
legal version. When I doubted him, he promptly demonstrated it to me.

Basically we endure a lot of ball ache for Adesk to get 5 to 8 weeks of
piracy free time.

Nick,
I believe it would be legal to have a license of IV, but run a hacked copy
of the same version in order to not have to deal with the cdilla beast.
