I need to help on the best way of modelling a metal plate with a recess - please see attached image.
A step-by-step method would be great.
I'm looking for the quickest and most accurate way to get this modelled up, many thanks.

Hi,
The best method would probably to use the function "punch and emboss" of inventor but I not confident that this punch exist so you have to create it and I'm not aware how to do that...
Below this is how I do :
1. Extrude a block from the height of your part minus your wall thickness
2. Chamfer the edge of this solid to match to your need
3. Extrude again of your wall thickness to make your edge
4. Then use the function "hull" (not sure that it is the good name in english for this function in Inventor...)
5. Then round your edge
Hope it help...
John.
Thank you for your helpful comments, would it be possible to provide images with your step-by-step guide to give me an idea of the different functions needed to complete the model ? Thanks
I think I have a simpler way.
Face, Extrusion, Shell.
Check it out, I have it attached.
Good Luck.
Stephen
Thank you so much, that was extremely useful and great that you sent the part for me to look at. I think I've got it now - trick being with the taper on the second extrusion. Thanks again.
Add the outside fillets before the Shell and your inside fillets will be created for you.
