Mobius Loop

While waiting for Santa, I got to wondering if R6 could create a mobius
loop. It wasn't as straight forward as I thought but... I have poseted
a jpeg of one I made and am curious how others might approach the
problem. It is in CF under "mobius loop".

Happy Holidays.

Well, my chunky loft kinda worked 😞
Funny, I sew them all the time and never thought about modeling one. Gonna stay up and see what Jeff did!

Oh No,
I screwed up and went too far (360d). I'm gonna try this again tomorrow!

Think you need to "Attach" the jpgs, Darvin, it's looking for the pictures
on your hard drive; on your system, it can find them to display but on the
NG server it can't.

Yeah, sometimes I'm just a dork
But I did finally get a mobius. Put a simple body version in CF. I ended up doing 4 lofts, constraining and then
deriving an ipt. Whew!! I swear I did 10 different versions of this thing. Got a dir full o' files!
They're all kludgy 😞
I think Jeff took that smoothest one through rhino (he did admit cheating).
happy HoHo's.

With R6 any loft using auto point mapping becomes a sort of mobius
strip...

Good idea, Charles.

I posted my "mobius loop" to CF.
I also tried to get one with
really only two faces, but had
no success.

I debated whether to post my files or to see what others came up with.
So far, it looks like everyone did it differently. What's that, there
are as many ways to do something as there are engineers. Perhaps
tomorrow I will post mine but I think we should see if there are any
more takers. One thing this exercise points out is that Inventor could
use a little flexibility on how we can define lofts. Anyone else notice
that you can't map the points between the end points and start points on
a loop close? This would have made it a lot easier.

Glad to have you on the "flexible loft" merry-go-round, Charles! I've gotten
pretty good at getting Inventor generate pretty-much every loft error it
knows. Seems to me like there's an endless-loop in the code somewhere; often
correcting what's generating one error causes another.

I haven't gotten many errors but haven't gotten many "as expected / as
desired" lofts either. I continue it is "me" and my lack of
understanding about lofts. I suspect they are a programmers nightmare.
My expectation is if I draw 8 sections in a circular path that I would
get a smooth circular loft, instead, I get an octagonal loft. I
encountered this in the mobius loop when I tried to add weight (which
seems like an imprecise science).

Trying lofts that I expect should work are where I get most of the errors
from. Sean and I were trying to get a seemingly simple loft to work a couple
weeks ago but it refused ... period. It was two identical spline profiles on
offset workplanes that were supposed to loft (curve) to an angled different
profile on the third offset workplane. I would have never guessed it
wouldn't loft, but it wouldn't. That was one that pretty-much went through
all the possible errors between U&V and Just can't loft it: Loft Failed.
Correct the U&V error then get Not a manifold error, get that one fixed then
another or a failure. I'll bet it is a programming nightmare, specially the
part about splines.

I remember that BarnaMadau posted an image of one way back in the "show off"

I`ve just posted three more loops to CF.
One is made with the help of MDT (autosurf).
I sweeped a rectangle over a circular augmented
path. Wonder if we'll get things like this in IV7.
Would be nice to see your solution, Charles.
