Material change on mirrored part

I have mirrored some parts. At the beginning the part was in standard steel. But now i want to change it in Galvanised steel. The NONE mirrored parts are easy to change into the new material, but the mirrored parts refuse to get changed in Galvanised steel structure.

How can i solve this?

I cannot reproduce the problem as you can see in the attached video.

Are we following the same steps?

If yes, can you apply other material to the mirrored part?

Can you provide a sample mirrored part where you cannot apply the material?

Thanks and regards,

Alessandro

Dear Allesandro,

In your video it also doesn't work.  Why didn't the mirrored part didn't get the galvanised style?

Look at my image mirrored part has galvanised material but not the galvanised style

The master piece has galvanised material and galvanised style.

I'm not able to give the mirrored piece the galvanised style.

And if i could do it manually isn't there an automatically manner, otherwise i have to change all these parts by hand... pfff

Sorry for the misunderstanding. I hope I got it now.

You are talking about the color style.

If this is the problem, before to apply the new material to the part you need to do the following.

Select the derived part in the mirrored part browser.

EditDerived.png

Uncheck the option “Use color override from source component”.

Color Override.png

After that, applying the new material to the mirrored part, the color will follow.

I hope you can find it useful.

We have already reported to our development the enhancement request for disabling this option by default or for doing it in the Mirror Component dialog.

Hopefully this will be implemented soon.

Kind regards,

Alessandro

Alessandro,

Do i have to do this to ALL the mirrored parts? If so i think i need some days spending to change these settings manually.

I have the same problem with parts that has images on it (decal)

I design transportation solutions, because of this i use MIRROR a lot because almost 90% of the transportation vehicules have the same left as right. So when i put reflectors, lamps, decals and other things as mirrored parts, do i have to change the styles manually?  Or is there some other way arround? A preset where i can define to override something?

If you want to disable the option “Use color override from source component”, by default, please, try the following.

  • Install the SP1 for Inventor 2012 if you have not done it yet.
  • Close Inventor.
  • On the Start menu (Windows), click Run.
  • In the Run dialog box, enter REGEDIT.
  • In the Registry Editor, locate the following key and export it:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Autodesk\Inventor\RegistryVersion16.0\System\Preferences\PartDerivedPartDlg

  • Save the reg file on your machine and name it, for instance, “color_override_on.reg”.
  • Extract the reg file from the zip attached on your machine, double-click on it and accept to change the registry settings.
  • Restart Inventor.

After that, if you mirror your parts in your assembly, you can assign the new material to the mirrored parts without problem.

If you need to apply the new material to several mirrored parts, a little trick for doing it quickly is to do it in the assembly BOM.

As you can imagine, the new setting apply just to the new components you create after applying it.

For the ones you have already created, unfortunately, you have to change it manually.

By the way, I hope you can find this suggestion useful.

In case, for some reason, you want to go back to the previous default setting, you need to close Inventor, double-click on the file “color_override_on.reg” you have created and restart Inventor.

About the decal issue, I’m not sure if I’ve understood it correctly.

But, if the problem is that when you mirror one component where you have applied a decal feature, you don’t get this feature in the resulting mirrored part, unfortunately, this is the current “as design” behavior for the derived component and there is no setting for changing it.

Maybe you can think about a different approach in this case.

For instance, instead of applying a decal, you can edit the color style of the materials you apply to the components through the styles manager and use your BMP as the texture.

I hope you can find this useful as well.

Kind regards,

Alessandro
