Mate Constraints

I've modeled a case. I've placed a lid on the case. IV assumes a flush constraint between the two. Why not a mate ?

Mike

IV doesn't assume anything. You specify mate or flush. Can you elaborate a
bit more?

When creating the lid in the assembly I opt to constrain the sketch plane for the lid to the top face of the case.I then extrude the lid to the required thickness make the extrusion adaptive then go back to the assembly environment & fit the lid to the case edges using flush constraints. The browser now shows these 4 flush constraints along with a flush constrain for the lid sitting on the top face of the body. Surely this should be a mate constraint?

Mike

OK I see. Well I guess it depends on your perspective. When you begin your
part there is no face there. You can if you want delete this and then make
it a mate constraint.

Thing is Sean, I'm sure that in the past a mate constraint was applied by IV. Maybe it's me !

It's because you are constraining a sketch, not a face. A sketch may or may not
be the same orientation as the face, depending on which way you extruded. If you
were to delete the flush to sketch-plane and reconstrain, I'm sure it would be a
mate, mate.
