3d intersection between helix surface and extuded surface

then sweep

attach your attempt here for further instruction.

I recommend that your teacher go through ALL of the tutorials/papers in my signature and especially the Knot tutorial.

Hi caleb.leftwich93,

Here's an example file that you can look at to see how it's done.

I hope this helps.
Best of luck to you in all of your Inventor pursuits,

Here is another example with subtle differences - the key difference is the swept circle is on a plane perpendicular to the start point of the path to ensure the wire cross section is round.

The example isn't perfect using this helxi intersection method - but should be close enough.
If you need closer to perfect - post back and someone will suggest a slightly different intersection for the path.

I know this is an old thread but I am drawing basically the same thing right now and am having some problems.

I used the file you posted but your lines are not straight. All of the lines going vertically (they are slanted I know, but essentially vertical) are bent in the middle instead of being straight. Is there a way to correct this?

Thank you.

If I use a small pitch the transition between bends is straight but if I stretch the pitch out, it distorts the wire.

I attached an example with straight lines - but you did not indicate in your problem description that you are using an older version of Inventor.

That way worked perfect for me. Thank you for responding and for the help, you saved me a lot of time!

Until now I was making a half revolution coil, an extrusion for the straight part, then another half revolution coil so on and so forth. Your way is MUCH faster!
