Maintenance Question

Does anyone have issues with unreserving of files or compacting whole directories (whenever they remember)? If so post a simple reply here. I have written a small program that allows people to select the locations (local or network) of directories to compact and or unreserve. It can either be run after directories are listed or set to run at a certain time in the evening when no one is using the files. It is functional, I have not written any real documentation on how to use it (should be simple to figure out). We've used it every on our servers without a problem for 6 weeks now. Let me know, Mike

Kent has posted the program in the iCode area of his website. If anyone has any questions about it please let me know. My email is hyperlinked on his site and it is also on the about dialog box of the program.

The program does 3 things by selection (1) Unreserve files, (2) Compact all the files that are found (3) Checks the health of the files found. Checking the health may sound a little curious but what it is doing is looking for crash files that can't be opened. When it finds them they will be listed in a file called "Crash.log" In the file list, for quick reference, what version all the files were last saved at.

In the installed directory after each run there will be a set of log files to view. One is the "Report.log" file. This file will be appended to each time the program is run. The "Version.log", "Crash.log", and the "Compact.log" files are reset at the begining of each run in order to log a new file list. If there are no log files other than the "Report.log" file, then there are no problems with your files, they're up to date, and all compacted.

Enjoy, Mike
