Yeh Jorgen   I think your right.
Steve is from Australia.

Sounds
like the C-dilla troll.
(the ever-popular licence-manager from hell).

US-versions dont have this beast, and can use the auth-code again and
again.
Us others, (at least europeans) have to endure this silly
abomination. When we rescieve the auth-code, were told to keep it because
we'll need it to re-install, but of cource it doesnt work that way.

I also have to get a new code to install on a new or changed machine.

Most of the time however, on a machine with a valid license, you can
uninstall and reinstall IV without using the auth-code.
A format of the
hard-drive should also be OK.

I most certainly am from the land of Oz :smileyhappy:. The main problem for us at the moment is that Adesk or the VAR (don't know which) wont issue an Auth code for a 5.3 licence, because they have sent us R6. Hopefully we can get R6 up and running on all three machines we have here soon.

Steve,

In order to avoid most problems with the licenses,
it is best to export them prior to do some major changes on the PC in question,
and to reimport them afterwards. Should work without problems, I've done this
several times now.

Please note: The license is tied to the NIC adapter
number!

Leo,
I'm pretty sure the license is tied to a few more things than that. I
assume it's a bit like Windows XP as my home computer doesn't have a NIC in
it and I can import and export the license to it with no problems.

Well,
Suppose this is a topic Adesk wouldn't like to see discussed publicly that
much...
I was told by a tech guy, that it's tied to the NIC, and that - with many
cheap NIC products - you can change this NIC number with a tool, so you
could clone your license. I've not tested this, as I have more licenses than
employees at the moment.

Could you be confusing it with Pro/e?
They used to tie the licence to the mac-adress on the NIC.

No danger of confusion due to my lack of knowledge
of Pro/E <g>

But maybe there got something mixed up between
network license and standalone.
