Keyway on a shaft

How can i sketch a keyslot on a shaft? if i create a workplane at certain distance than I am not able to snap/grab the points.
what is the best way to draw anything onb a cylindrical surface? see attached pic, need help

Project the center point of the model itself, sketch a (center) line from that center point, then draw your slot. I located it some distance from an existing shoulder by dimensioning to that shoulder, without having to project it, by the way.

What points do you mean?

Put the workplane where you want the bottom of the keyseat, new sketch (F7 to view the sketch plane), sketch the keyseat, extrude cut thru all

i cant draw key anywhere, it has to be symetrical to axis of shaft, how could i use those points or axis of shaft to draw a keyway on this new workplane

Have you considered using the keyway generator in Design Accelerator?
