Iparts & proxy path

When using my own Iparts, the children are not created in the proxy path,
but in the same location as the Ipart factory. If I'm using other Iparts -
for example from Sean's collection (thank you, Sean!), the children are
created correctly in the proxy path.
All Iparts are in the Ipartfactory location, one or two levels down.

This doesn't seem right.

Am I missing something?

The project is set as below:

[Workgroup serch path]
Workgroup - E:\My Documents\WorkInProgress\P1514\Workgroup

[Library search path]
Iparts - E:\Ipartfactory
_Iparts - E:\Ipartchildren

[Options]
Multi User Off
Rel. Paths True
Third Party False

Actually that's Charles' collection...www.cbliss.com

Regardless, it should not make a difference who created the iPart. Your
proxy path looks to be correct. Is there a possibility that you did not yet
open and save (or migrate) the files to R6? Are you placing the iParts via
the Place Component command. This is one I have not yet heard of...

One thing I do see is that you have relative paths set to true but your
Workgroup path is hardcoded. Where does the actual project file (*.ipj)
exist relative to the workgroup?

And my thanks for the Ipart collection to Charles !
(Hope this, at least, is in the right place :))

OK that looks good. I'm at a loss why some would be created in the proxy
location and others not. Check the dates on the children *not* in the proxy
location. Maybe they were created in the past before you set up the proxy
path?

This behaviour is current.
Same thing happens if I add the Ipart library search path and its proxy path
to my Default project.
Same thing happens if I create a new assembly (with newly spawn childrens,
derived directly from the Iparts) in one of the existing projects.
Same thing happens if I create a new project, add the library (& proxy)
paths & create a new assembly.

My Iparts were created in a different location, so I thought I'd better move
it to the libraries (using Windows Explorer cut & paste) before starting to
use it in assemblies, when I came across this "curiosity".

I am fairly new to Iparts, so I guess I must have done something wrong
somewhere...

Danny

Danny,

Are you using a "standard" or a "custom" factory?

With a custom factory the children are created in the

same location as the factory.

You can use the "Browse" button to direct them somewhere

else.

Try leaving the proxy path out of the project file. Inventor should then
place them in a folder under the parent location.

Spot on, Tom.
It is a custom Ipart factory.

That "Destination filename" and browse button are now staring right in my
(red) face...;))
I sure learned something!

Many thanks

Server and most workstations are W2K. One person's workstation is NT 4.0
however.
