I installed inventor 2014 on my laptop with windows 8.1, and export to DWG does not work. When i go to export, the options button doesnt work. when i click save, it pops up a windows and says "Problems encountered while saving the document." On my desktop with 2014 it works perfectly. I have the newest sp1. Does anybody know how to fix this and make this actually work.

Hi,
Would you mind trying the following step and see if this fixes your issue?
1) Press [Windows] key to open the Windows' start page
2) Type "cmd" to find "Command Prompt" > right mouse click on it
> select "Run as administrator"
3) On "Administrator: Command Proompt" window, type
cd "c:\program files\autodesk\Inventor 2014\bin"
then
inventor /install
4) Wait for 1 min (inventor will be executed background then exit silently)
Hope this helps,

Just wanted to add: this issue is not only for Windows 8.1 . We have also seen this with Windows 7 and the same solution applies.

Fixed my problem of importing dwg files into inventor. Now I can see them. But the 2d to 3d converter is not recognizing the file. At least one more step on the road.

I have a student licence of Inventor 2014.
I tried the command fix but I get a message saying "inventor" is not recognised as an internal or external command.
To further complicate things I am running windows 8.1 as a virtual drive on Parallels.
Is their anything else I can do to fix this issue?

Thanks for the description. However, I'm having an issue with command prompt. Affter running administrator I get this response after running "c:\program files\autodesk\Inventor 2014\bin":
"'c:\pogram' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file."
I desperately need to get these DWG files redy for a project. I have also atatched an image describing the issue.

Hi luke.burkey, you must use the symbol " at the beginning and end of the path. Example:
"C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Inventor 2014\Bin\inventor.exe" /install
