Inventor 2013 and 2014 cross usage

Okay if i remember this right my school has invetor 2013 and right now i have downloaded Inventor 2014. I am working on a robotic design for the SkillsUSA competition and as wondering if the stuff i saved from 2013 will work on 2014, and vice versa.

if you save in 2013 you can use in 2014
but you can't go the other way
there have been other threads on this subject for workarounds on this
