Inventor 2012 pro crashes on startup

Previously working just fine, had not used it on that machine in a while. Go to start, crash after splash screen first displayed, CER indicates FwSrv.dll is probably cause. After trying a few different things, resorted to a complete uninstall of all Inventor 2012 and associated programs and then reinstall (+SP1) has not made a difference. I've sent in CER's but was wondering if anyone might have any suggestions, numerous searches haven't turned up much.

Hi,

If you have sent a CER, did you receive any email from Autodesk with a link for hot fix or service pack.

Can you send us the email address that you have used to submit the report and also the procedure to reproduce the crash.

Hi Vinod,

I did get an email and have replied. I doubt it will do any good as they were asking for a data set. SInce Inventor won't even come close to starting, it can hardly be a data-set issue.

Any suggestions appreciated, but it looks like a Windows reinstall might be the next step.

Thanks.

Thanks for the message.

Since you mentioned ealier that you have submitted some CER, can you provide the email address that you have used and some details around when and how you managed to send the report.

Hello,

Have you recieved any response to this issue? We are having the same issue with one user machine. I have removed everything, numerous times and reinstalled. (registry entries, misc folders, all removed)

I don't know if this is related, but it just so happened that we started noticing this shortly after a borrow license operation.

Thanks for the help!

Jeremy

Response, yes. Solution, no. I haven't had time to go back and try anything else, my next thought would be to uninstall all Autodesk software on the machine and then reinstall IV. Running some Autodesk beta software seems to be the likely culprit on this particular machine.

Hi Guys,

Can you try to use the quick uninstaller tool to remove all your beta versions and try reinstalling the product again. I do understand its not a great workaround but i think this might fix the issue faster.

Hope it helps.

Hi Vinod,

Have tried that, including reg edit to remove keys. No luck. I agree that it must be something that is not getting removed is causing the issue. I won't be able to try anything further for a week or two.

Hi Vinrod,

We have also tried this, several times. Following the clean removal instructions. I have an open ticket with autodesk, and we aren't having any luck solving it. We haven't installed any beta software.

Last resort is to reimage the machine, but I would rather not do this as our corparate image doesn't exactly meet the needs of our engineers and would require several days work getting everything back up and running.

One thing I did notice in the cer was the productkey did not match the one on the Inventor box. although it is a networked license. Could there be an issue here?

Really hoping someone has got an answer for us Smiley Happy

Thanks,

Jeremy

Hi jparks_79,

Here is something to look at for network seats:

I hope this helps.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for your replies. I am checking with our developers to track this issue. Is there any chance that you were asked to submit a crash report. If so, can you send one and provide me the email address you have used. This would help me to track down the problem with Inventor quickly and report to our development.

Looking forward to your replies.

Hi

I've seen this issue yet (with 2011on XP and 2012 on W7)and the only way i've find(it's come from autodesk subscription)is to recreate a user account or format the HD and reinstall window.

the bug is with window's  registery and at this time no workaround and no hotfix.

this is very bad issue with window.

I think the autodesk work very hard with this issue because a lot of user have this bug.

Hi Guys,

We had some issues with unsupported graphic card drivers. Can you check the following link and download the right driver for your Inventor and install it.

Another suggestion you could try would be to go to Start -> Programs -> Autodesk -> Inventor 2012 -> Tools -> Addin Manager. Unload all the addins and try starting Inventor and see whether you could able to reproduce the crash again.

Let me know, if that helps.

Hi Vinrod,

I have been in contact with Charlie Mercer at autodesk. Maybe you guys could compare notes? I have sent him the error reports.

We have also tried all the recent suggestions...graphics drivers and addins...no luck

Thanks

Jeremy

Hi Guys,

Thanks for all your inputs. I had a discussion with our QA folks. Here are something that you can provide us.

The only other thing we can think of is perhaps relating to a 3DConnexion device – are you using one ? If so, can you uninstall the driver and test with a normal mouse ?

Another thing to check is what registry values are being used for the mitsijm2012 &/or 2013 services – if you still have those services in place.

Hi Vinrod,

Thanks for the update. The user does not use a spaceball. And in previous attempts, I completely removed the entire "autodesk" structure from the registry after performing a complete uninstall.

Thanks,

Jeremy

Hi,

I had the abovementioned Inventor 2012 startup hanging problem on standalone Dell laptop installation. When I was already preparing the clean uninstall of the product, the solution unexpectedly came.

I started Inventor from desktop shortcut as administrator. Just after few seconds after the splash screen displayed I started it again on the same manner. As a result, two instances of Inventor opened. I opened some files in one of them and after that I closed both instances.

Surprisingly, since that time Inventor always starts correctly.
