Inventor 2012 Crashes opening drawings from PSP 2011!!!

Hi,

We have used Inventor 2010 with PSP 2011.

- Recently we have upgrade to Inventor 2012.

- Installed pspro_cad_fp_10.0.39.3 update for PSP Server and for PSP Clients.

And now, some drawings we can not open in Inventor 2012. Inventor crashes!

But some drawings we are lucky to be able to open and work with.

Drawings have the same template.

If the drawing is locked (read only) then inventor 2012 can open it without a crash.

If I drag&drop drawing out from PSP onto my Desktop, Inventor 2012 can open drawing without problems.

So we are not able to work with some drawings in Inventor 2012 and PSP 2011.

Any solutions/ideas???

As the first and quick (and 100%) solution - rollback to Inventor 2010 can cost us about 5 man-days of work. (Because we have done some work in Inventor 2012 allready and will not be able to work with this in Inventor 2010)

However if solution will not be found  quick, I guess that's the way to go.

I think this is have something to do with PSP and Inventor Integration.

Because as I mentioned If I drag&drop drawing out from PSP onto my Desktop, Inventor 2012 can open drawing without problems.

Actually, looks like I have found stupid, but neither the less,  a workaround.

1.            Make a copy of “crashing” original drawing.

2.            Open copy. Copy opens without problem.

3.            Then open original “crashing” drawing. And then original opens without the problem (only) if you have a copy of this drawing opened.

4.            Save the original. No need to save copy.

5.            Close all drawings.

6.            Open the original. Original opens without any problem. (And no need anymore for copy)

7.            Delete copy.

But still, solution (fix) very much needed.

Will try to post it into Inventor Forum as well.

Very appreciate your post and workaround here, and can you attach an example PSP 2011 drawing that crashs Inventor here ? or you can send it to Hongyuan.Li@autodesk.com if it is not acceptable to attach it in this forum. I will validate and reproduce the crash problem and let development team to investigate and have a fix for this.

I recently ran in the same problem. Inventor 2012 crashes after opening a IDW from PSP2011.

First it was difficult to reproduce the problem, because the customer had those crashes and me not.

Then I noticed that the customer was using Inventor 2012 Pro installed from the Autodesk Product Design Suite Premium 2012 and I was using Stand-Alone Inventor 2012 installation.

Then I uninstalled my Inventor and installed the one from PDS 2012 Ultimate and suddenly I was able to reproduce the problem on my machine.

It aboulutely has nothing to do with PSP2011 customizations, because I also tested it on a plain PSP2011, just created an IPT and IDW document, put the customer's files in place and the crash happened each time I tried to double-click IDW from Compass.

After a whole day of testing I fould out, that the crash only happens, wen PSP2011 is trying to do Propery-Update in the IDW. If you turn off AutomaticPropertyUpdate in Compass-Configuration (INV_COMMON) then you won't have any crashes. The problem is that you can not just turn off that option to solve the problem, because the user must always manually do Property-Update from Inventor to have iProperties in Sync with Compass.

I just opened a Support Request at Autodesk Product Support and now I hope that there will be a Patch available.

Again, those crashes happen only in combination with Inventor 2012 which gets installed by Autodesk Product Design Suite Premium 2012. If you install Stand-Alone Inventor 2012 everything works fine.
