Inserting Fram Generator members using work points

I am working on new handrails for a handicap access ramp.

I have drawn the ramp based upon site dimension, and have created work points and work axis for some of the posts and the top rail.

I am trying to use Frame Generator to place in the pipe.

The help file for Frame Generator states that you can insert frame members between work points, but I cannot seem to make them work.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you,
Matt

As far as I know frame generator needs a part file with a sketch in it to follow for placing members. I think that you need to create this sketch in a part file and insert it into this assembly and then it will work. All of the work points and axis are create at assembly level; they need to be at part level.

Well I will take that back, I had seen that Dennis posted just after I did and tried it out and it will work with the points located @ assembly level, thanks Dennis I have learned something new from you again today.

Look at the bottom of the Dialog box. You can place by edges (lines) or
by Points.

It is highly recommended to have the points and/or edges in a Skeleton part.

Thank you Dennis and Mike.

I cannot select the work points, and it sounds like that is because they are on the assembly level and need to be on the part level.

I see and have tried selecting the points based upon the help file for Frame Generator saying that work points are acceptable, and tried to use the selection at the bottom of the dialogue box.

I assume that I need to create a 3D sketch skeleton, and need more practice at 3D sketching to be able to do so. I was able to more easily create the work points and work axis, and was hoping that would be adequate to be able to generate the frame out of pipe.

If there is a better way for me to go, please let me know, otherwise I need to get some more 3D sketching experience.

Thank you,
Matt

Thanks Dennis.

The assembly and parts zipped to 1.4 meg I believe, so I hope this will upload.

Thanks,

This 2020 Assy should get you started with Frame Generator. While you
are learning 3-D sketches, keep in mind that your skeleton can also be
an extruded surface that can be later turned off.

I too, am having this same issue.  I am using the frame generator to create W-Shape I-beams in an assembly.  The help file states that it can use work points and that is the easiest way for me to define the orientation and location of these beams.  Was there ever a solution for this problem or did I miss it somewhere in the replies?  I see the option that tells you to select and beginning and end point but even that doesn't work.  Thank you!
