Infered Imates part Deux

I need to retract my statements the other day about inferred imates. It
seems something else was awry in the assy in which I was testing this. I
tried a new smaller assy today and they flew!! This is a great timesaver.
How it works...

Let's say you have a plate with a bunch of 1/4-20 holes. Insert a bolt and
constrain it with an insert. Now RMB on the bolt and select Infer Imates.
Accept the defaults. Now copy and paste in a new bolt. Hold down ALt and
drag the bolt into the next hole. Repeat with all of the new bolts. I've
found this can be a lot quicker than constraining each one the old fashioned
way.

I'm not 100% sold on it yet but I'm a bit more optimistic than yesterday.

Thanks for the update Sean. I like what they've done.

Forgive me, I am totally clueless about Imates. When I infer an imate, does
this info remain local to the assembly, or does it become part of the ipart
or part?

It becomes part of the part itself. The option to infer imates is not
available for iparts. You must embed this imate info in the part itself
(something I just found out) so really it becomes less useful than I had
previously thought.

It would still be useful for example if you had a bunch of non-ipart rods
you had to stick in a bunch of holes where a component pattern was not a
good choice (random or non-linear pattern)

I was gonna say my infer imates is greyed out but this was a std part it
already has imates so no need, yes it works on fasteners! And Sean where are
we headed on fasteners we really need a slick method soon, the thing is are
iparts here to stay or is Adesk going to buy you out and bring in a new
system

Laurence,

I know we do and I have expressed that to Autodesk. There needs to be a
quick and easy way to insert fasteners. I assume (and hope) iParts will be
around for a long time but we still need a slick way to insert them.
