In search of Exploded view guru

Please help! When I create our exploded view drawings they are more then one
sheet. Sheet 1 has an Isometric view of the assembly along with the parts
list for the assembly. Sheet 2 will be an exploded view of part of the
assembly. When I auto balloon the view (sheet 2) will the balloon numbers
ALWAYS match the parts list on sheet 1. Sheet 2 may be one half of the
assembly and sheet 3 the other half, I worried that balloon numbers may not
match the parts list I created on sheet one. FYI are old files had a custom
field call Item Number and that is what the balloons were created from, but
now we have a drawing pool and I can't do that. Other people must do this
every day can someone guide me in the right direction.

Thanks, Matt

I remember some people having some possible work arounds. Search the R5.X and R6 forums and you might find something.

We only have balloons on our drawings. BOMS are printed from the ERP system. Gives you more space and eliminates the mistakes inherent in having redundant data.

Boms are one of my major frustrations. I don't think they realize quite how much time
people are wasting on trying to get their balloons to match their boms.

I think it is more of a matter of "boms don't sell seats". If something isn't sexy the mentality is it won't sell seats. That would be true if it weren't for "word of mouth". "Word of mouth" isn't much of a penalty when you are selling obscure software and you can direct perspective companies to particular other companies for references. Once something is real mainstream and someone can get their own references..... suddenly that word of mouth matters.

It is all Fed-X's fault really. If they hadn't taught us that nothing is impossible and you can have it now our society wouldn't have such a demand on instantaneous results. The analysts would give the sw companies a chance, shareholders would be in it for the long haul, and day traders would be little kids with baseball cards.

Here's an idea, Inventor will let you pick a parts
list to generate the balloons from. So on sheet 1 you create a parts list, then
on sheet 4 when you go to balloon the parts rather then picking the view you
select the parts list from sheet 1 in the browser. So can we have that for
SP2

I second that!

We don't show parts lists on our drawings, just balloons
to the parts. So, I just want to create one parts list, edit the Item numbers,
and then get on with ballooning. I would prefer not to have to do that for each
sheet in a dwg.

For you guys who don't put a BOM on the
drawing:

Do you NOT care about the order that the parts get
ballooned?  I prefer organizing my BOM so fabricated parts are first, then
purchased parts (grouped by vendor), then fasteners.

My problem comes when I re-arrange the BOM for one
view and then I have another base view derived from another exploded view from
my IPN.  The parts will not balloon in the same sequence.

I put a small amount of effort into that, but not much. I use a sketch symbol for the ballons on subsequent sheets. Sure, it would be great if they were associative. It would be like a normal CAD package like everyone else uses!

LOL - I really need a vacation. I've got 200 hours on the books and I need to take some of it.
