Im a complete newbie to inventor. I have .igs files and .stl files of 3D boat hulls. I want to import them into Inventor 2014 so I can export inventor files into Simulation CFD.
They seem to come in as meshes, and I can't rotate them. There is no grounded point. Help!
Are you able to post one of your iges files on here and I'll have a look? (distort it a bit to protect IP if you like) I often have to import hull files and it can be painful.
What program are you exporting from?
Do you have access to Rhino or similar? I'm sure Inventor has the tools but I've found the fastest way is to get the hull right in Rhino, save as a STEP or Rhino file and import that into Inventor.
If they are comming in as "IPT" files, then they are single part files and can't be rotated by themselves. They would need to be ungrounded parts within the context of a assembly file "IAM".
Post file or files
Something similar maybe:
Last week I was trying to import an iges boat hull as well, I played around as much as possible with the import options but couldn't get what I wanted.
I opened the same file in Fushion 2013 and saved as .step I think.
Opened in Inventor and I got a much better result.
I tried a couple of other combinations but this one worked best for me.
