IV7 Sketch problem?

I just finished installing IV7 on my new computer and I am having a problem sketching the starting profile for parts. I like parts to be symmetrical around the 0,0,0 point. When a build a part, for example a simple rectangle bar, I first draw the rectangle using normal lines and then draw 4 construction lines between the 0,0,0 point perpendicular to each of the four sides. I fix the endpoints of the construction lines to the 0,0,0 point and set an equal constraint between the each line and the line directly opposite it. I then use a midplane extrusion to generate the solid part.

This technique has worked well for me until IV7. It will not let me put the equal constraint on the construction lines. I can drag the lines approximately equal or use dimensions to make them equal, so I know that there is not some other constraint causing trouble. IV7 keeps telling me that adding the equal constraint will over constrain the sketch.

Has anyone had similar trouble? Am I too particular about how my models are built?

There is a known bug in the use of the equal constraint. On straight
lines you must apply the = constraint BEFORE any dimensions are added.
After dimensions have be added the constraint does not work properly on
straight lines, it works fine on arcs and circles however. The work
around is to use dimensions.

You can accomplish the same thing faster and easier
with just one construction line from opposite corners.  Project the origin,
and coincident-constrain that to the line's midpoint.

Wont help with the equal constraint but there are some avi's of ways you might find easier
to center a rectangle on the origin at my site.

I generally make the midpoints of two sides horizontal and vertical with the origin.

Jeff: I believe the quickest, simplest method is:

-sketch rectangle, roughly surrounding 0,0,0
-project the origin center point into the sketch
-apply a horizontal constraint between the center point and the midpoint of
one of the "vertical" lines
-apply a vertical constraint between the center point and the midpoint of
one of the "horizontal" lines
