IV10 - Virtual Components

I just started playing with IV10 so maybe this is a dumb question, but I take it Virtual Components don't use a template file. If this is true is there anyway of having the Virtual Components contain the same iProps everytime one is placed?

Maybe i'm just not getting it...

Not at this time. You can copy / paste between assemblies. Consider
creating an assembly file that is a "library" for your virtual components.

Thanks for the reply Andrew

When you say "Not at this time" does that mean we may see this or something like it in the future?

Yes, there are some enhancements we'd like to make in this area.

We don't have IV10 installed (waiting for the CD's to arrive), but is it
possible to copy iProperties to a Virtual Component with Design Assistant?

Yes DA can do it.
Windows Explorer can do it as well. Select all files you want then rmb > iProperties. Make sure that none of these files are open in Inventor at the same time.

I don't believe this is true Harry. Virtual components are not stored as
separate files. I could be wrong here, but I don't believe DA works with
virtual components.

You could also just maintain a bunch of commonly-used virtual components in
your assembly template, and just delete the one's you don't need.

Oh yes, sorry. Got the term "virtual component" wrong.

what's a virtual component?
Sounds like a block from AutoCAD.

Virtual part is a non-graphical component that's defined at the assembly
level with no external file resource. To be used for things like grease,
paint, software, etc.
