INVENTOR CATAGORIES

i cant get to the "let us know" area so im just gonna post here.

AutoCAD has divisions set up between the years. Inventor doesnt.

its hard to fing IV 11 problems with all this 2008 going on. its cluttered and unorganized.

can we have catagories of different Inventor versions? make it easier for everyones questions to get answered.

The problem there is that someone will post in INV11 forum always so problems that are not related to a specific revision will not show up in the other INV10,9,etc... forums.

The divisions could be setup but rules would be necessary so that if its a version specific problem post it in the correct forum but if its not you need to post it in the general problem forum.

IMO leave it how it is. divisions will just create other problems.

use a free email client like thunderbird 2.0 and filter your messages for inv 11 stuff

If everyone would just post their version number, then half the problem
would be solved. But of course, we know that people can't do that, so why
would they bother to post in the proper forum anyway?

Years ago, each version did have its own
newsgroup, but they were consolidated into one group sometime around the
Inventor 7 timeframe (someone correct me if I'm wrong).  The advantage is
that many questions are not version-specific and the information contained in
the threads is applicable and valuable to all Inventor users.  The
disadvantage, as Mr. Jeffrey pointed out, is that nearly every thread is now two
posts longer - after the initial post always comes the
obligatory "what version of Inventor" question, to which the
original poster must reply, "Oh, sorry, Inventor 11 SP2."

Further to which, with all the versions are blended, it takes so long to
go through the postings that there's no time left to make a contribution.

Many's the time I've gone through 75 posts and I could have answered 4
of the 30 that apply to my version, but I don't because the time was
used up wading through the other 45.

My preference has always been separate newsgroups.

Or do like Mark and I do and tag your name with what version you run. If
EVERYBODY did that . . . .

;-P Happy Inventing - you could be still on AutoCAD!!

Myself, I would never look at a user forum section that is not on the same
version that am currently running even if the problem is hardware or OS
related. I think that this is the reason why the versions were amalgamated.
Possibly with the 2D software the user base is much larger than the 3D user
base. I really wish though everyone posted their system spec's and version.
This would greatly reduce the thread sizes as previously noted.

ok so if autodesk discussion group changed the format so it had "topic title" then "version"

and you view a list of all the posts the version will have its own column

but it doesnt have to be recomended incase someone has a general question...or does it?

May be one way to cut down on the size of the threads would be to stop
answering posts that do not have relevant version information. Perhaps
then, the posters might actually check out the FAQ or do a search.

Gee, that really sounds great! Perhaps I'll stop responding to posts that
do not have version information!
