How to extrude but NOT join

Hi all,

I'm very new to Inventor, but I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction.

I have a bracket that I'm drawing, and it's made up of several pieces of 2mm thick steel.

When I extrude each piece, they join together, which I don't want.  I want to keep each layer of 2mm steel independant from the others.  If I could "untick" the 'join' button in Extrude I'd be ok, but I can't.

Can anyone tell me how to do this?

I'm using Inventor 2013.

Thanks in advance,

Chris

Hi
you must create a new solid and forget layer when you model a 3D part. The layer is only use in drawing. Search in the help solid.

Thanks for the responses.

"New solid" is greyed out in my extrude function?

Cheers,

Chris

Ah!  It's ok, I didn't have the model converted to a standard part, so that solved the greyed out issue.

I'll give your suggestion a go.

Cheers,

Chris
