How to erase FEA files from assembly?

Hello,

I used to use the Stress Analysis feature at my assembly.

Now I have copied it to another project and do not need this FEA info at copy.

I cannot just delete AIP folder since  Inventor claims of missing FEA files while opening.

Please advise how to erase those files info from this assembly file?

Best regards,

Orest Yavtushenko

Hi Orest,

There are two ways that are provided here: FEA / Vault thread

Add them here for your convenience:

1)  Delete the links in the modeling environment via Tools tab, Links command and save the model file

2)  In the Stress Analysis environment, in the Stress Analysis Settings dialog (not the Simulation properties dialog) uncheck 'Create OLE Link to Result Files' and save the model file

Hope this helps...

Thanks! -Hugh

Thank you for advice

I copied the design from a previous project in vault.I had put the copied Fea files in a separate folder, but my Vault admin deleted it.I am not able to delete the FEA associative files. The links command is not selectable. And the environment option does not work either. Now every time I open the file I am asked if I want to locate the Fea files.Really annoying.

Hi! If I understood the issue correctly, you are prompted for .fea result files. It is because there was a FEA study in the Stress Analysis environment linked to a result file. Now, the result file is missing, the study will either need to be rerun or deleted. You might need to enter the FEA environment, rerun the analysis or delete the study and save. After that, Inventor should not prompt you for the result file.

Many thanks!

I have this same issue as the link in Hugh's solution posting.

I inherited these assembly files.  These assemblies were done at a different location so the file pathing was different as shown below.  The FEA files were not transferred here so like others, when I go to try and check into the vault, I get the errors shown below.  Also, it prompts me to resolve the links for these files as well when I go to open the assembly.

Now, following the solution, it is suggesting I go to the Tools tab and select the links command, except in my case it is greyed out.  Now what????

Hi Scott,

Did you try the second solution Hugh provided (change the setting in FEA environment)?

Many thanks!

Hi Johnson,

I can't.  The FEA was done off site in a totally different location.  I have no access to that site or files.

So, I am stuck with these models that keep prompting me for the FEA files.

There is nothing in the browser from a 3rd party, nothing visible to delete.

I really hope I am not stuck with this the way it is.  I am trying to get these files in the Vault.

Hi Scott,

If you enter Stress Analysis environment, delete the study, save and close the file, does it still prompt you on open? If yes, I guess this could be a corrupted assembly. You might need to demote all components to a subassembly (but the iProperties might be lost). Essentially, recreate the assembly quickly.

Many thanks!

Hi Johnson,

Thank you for your help.  Demoting the sub-assemblies is easier said then done.  I need to keep the integrity of the assembly.  I am thinking at this point, maybe try contacting the company that created this assembly and see if I can get my hands on the FEA files.

Because as you can see from below, there is nothing to delete as per your suggestion.

Hi Scott,

Unfortunately, this means the assembly is corrupted. You might need to demote the components to a new assembly.

Many thanks!

Is it possible the reports are in a higher or lower level assembly?  I just ran into the same problem.  When the prompt window opens up it tells you which assembly the reference is in.

The reports actually end up being in a part file.  When I open said part file those same windows come up looking to try and connect with the analysis reports.

Not seeing any reports to delete in the part browser.

I was having the same problems.

Deleting the .fres file link didn't initially work as I'd previously deleted the FEA study.

On opening the assembly the system is still looking for

.fins
.fsat

.ftes

.fwiz

.fmsh

etc.

The solution is recreate an FEA study and then uncheck the OLE box.

This enables the deleting the link / unchecking the OLE link box solution to work.

Guys is there any way to break/delete all the links in one click instead of just going one by one? (I'm talking about tools->Links)

We don't work with vault

Also, what could happen if I set the option to not create OLE Links ?

That is what I do.

AFAIK, there is no way to delete all at once - once created you have to delete one-by-one.

And what are the consequences?

Do I need to rerun the study if nothing changed just to check results?

Does it delete the study settings (loads, fixtures)?

Basically what is the functionality of that link ???

Do I need to uncheck that box on every study scenario or every part/ assembly or is there any option in "Applications Options" that disables that forever.

Thank for the help ! 🙂

Constraints and loads remain in the definition, only the results are not retained, so if you close the file and later open it again - you have to re-run the analysis even if no changes were made.

Oh ok now I see, I don't want that behaviour because some of my simulations take a lot to finish.

Ok I will stay with breaking the link one by one.

Does anyone knows of an ilogic that can do that? Break all OLE links?
