I am trying to make a sketch on a sphere so I can extrude it. How can I make a plane or something on the sphere? The point where I would like to make the feature is not on a X or Y or Z plane. (Imagine the 90 degree lines on a globe and its not on there). Does anyone have a solution?
Edit: I want to make the extruded feature go normal to the surface.
Thanks,
Nate

Split face and thicken.
What are you trying to design?
Attach your file here of what you have completed so far or a picture of something similar.

You can treat creating a plane perpendicular to a sphere in the same way as a cylindar.
You can use:
Workplanes, workplanes, workplanes.
In my classes, I spend a lot of time teaching workplanes. Without the ability to place a workplane at any position you need, you are stuck with modeling primitive forms.

What do you want to know in this matter (Sketch on sphere) ?

Hi Andrew,
Starting from Inventor 2017, 3D Sketch has been enhanced to have Curve on Face. You can directly sketch on a sphere or any face.
Many thanks!
Hi Andrew,
Inventor and Fusion 360 are two different products. Which one are you using? Curve on Face is available on Inventor 2017 and later. I am not sure if it is available on Fusion 360. I am an expert on Inventor and I know very little about Fusion 360.
Many thanks!
Hi Andrew,
If Fusion works for you, you should keep using it. There is no reason to switch to anything. It is like Inventor users. They are using Inventor to design various industrial models. These tools are different options for you to choose. Depending on the work you do, you may prefer one over another.
I don't know what you are trying to do. But, I am sure there are Inventor users working on similar projects. If you can show more detail, the forum experts can comment further.
Many thanks!
