How to change the orientation of the fixed constraint?

How to change the orientation of the fixed constraint added to a beam or vertical column? (Inventor Professional 2012)

After I select the origin, the fixed constraint symbol is only placed at one direction, and I can not change it.

Can I just leave as it is? Will it affect the calculation results?

Thanks,

Allen

Hi Allen,

I assume you're referring to Frame Analysis.

The fixed constraint glyph orientation is dependent upon the gravity direction.  As such, you can only have one of three orientation directions (x, y, z).

The orientation doesn't matter for Fixed constraint, it fixes all translations and rotations.

If you need more control over the constraint orientation, you can use a custom constraint instead and modify the alpha / beta / gamma values:

Hope this helps!

Thanks, -Hugh

Thank you, Hugh.

It's very helpful.  I changed the fixed constraint orientation by changing gravity direction. And even though the direction is not matter for calculation result, it looks nice with right direction in the sumulation.
