Help with error message.

I keep getting this message when I'm working on drawings with a large model and over 6 pages

"Your Inventor session has used up more than 80% of the available address space. It is highly recommended that you close down some documents before proceeding further."

It's usually followed by a crash. I'm not running any other programs and my processor os running at about 50% capacity.

Any ideas?

One thing to try is to clear out all temp directories

That helped somewhat. I still get them and don't crash everytime now, maybe 60% of the tries. Any other ideas?

You might as well revert back to a previous/ov assembly or drawing file. I've gotten that error a number of times and realized that it results from something that I just did, or added to in my work flow: such as a mis-derivation in a part or the creation of an erroneous view. Most often the error has come from a large/intense assembly or drawing, but I *have gotten it with a mere part file ... totally unexplained. Hence, I recommend starting over ... just think of it as more practice. 😉

You're running out of RAM. To keep working with that size of data set you'll need/want to increase your amount of RAM. Even if it does fully open I bet your computer runs as slow as mollases with your current amount of RAM.

Hello Garrett,

You get the following message when Inventor is about to reach its address
space limit.

"Your Inventor session has used up more than 80% of the available address
space. It is highly recommended that you close down some documents before
proceeding further."

Every process (like Inventor) in windows gets 2GB address space for its use.
You can think of address space as some sort of virtual memory for the
process. Some of the reasons which might cause the problem are.
1. Just the shear volume of the data being handled
2. Defects in the software etc.
So it would be helpful if you can provide us with your dataset for further
investigation.
Let me know if you can provide us with the dataset.

Thanks,
Prabakar.

I've got 4 gigs of ram now. If I get it to open it runs great.

What is a dataset?

If it's computer specs then:

3100 megahertz Intel Pentium III
3456 Megabytes Installed Memory
79.96 Gigabytes Usable Hard Drive Capacity
68.00 Gigabytes Hard Drive Free Space
Windows XP Professional Service Pack 1 (build 2600)

I can't send the models, I'd need special permision and it's over 700 files and 200mb

If you are needing something else I'll be glad to send it
