What version of Inventor?
Service Pack(s) and Updates installed?
Graphics Card and driver?
Tools>Document Settings>Hardware tab on lowest setting?

I'm running 2014 with SP 1 installed on windows 7 64 bit. My GPU is just integrated in my mobo on on my Fujitsu Tablet. That may be responsible for the problem since I have also experienced a problem where the GPU will fail and recover occasionally while I'm running Inventor (or trying to run inventor). It's odd though because I bought this computer as an engineering tablet specifically for running programs like Inventor.
Have you tried to update the graphics drivers?
Does it work if you go to tools..application options...hardware tab and check "software graphics"?

Thanks mcgyvr, going into the applications options and checking the software graphics box fixed it. Thanks a lot!
Actually.. No it didn't really.. That WILL slow down Inventor..
Thats only a diagnostic tool to let you know that the problem is 100% related to your graphics card.
Like I said above I would update the graphics card driver and then uncheck the software graphics (then restart Inventor) and see if that works again..
You "typically" want to be set to "performance" or "quality".. Never compatibility or software graphics modes..
That "trick" just lets us know your card/driver is the problem
oh and get Inventor to the latest update as JD said above.. There were some graphics related fixes in that too..

Thats odd because thats not a good laptop computer by any means? Whomever told you that was sufficient didn't know what they are doing.
Heck just leave it at software graphics if it works for you..
