Have to wait for control every couple mintues

I have a layout that I modeled up that includes a very large customer file (originally stp), and every minute or so, I have a huge delay before I can have control to do anything.
Solidworks would do a similar thing where it would update all part files everytime you inserted something, and you can disable it and set it for manual update. I dont see this feature in inventor (of course)...not even sure if thats whats its doing...but I would guess it is.

I had this problem also and found that I had to turn the memory saving mode
off in TOOLS, APPLICATION OPTS, DRAWING TAB near the bottom.

This might be the switch you are looking for....

Tools >> Applications >> Assembly - Defer Updates.

I was under the assumption that button refers to only contraint updates....which is a real pain to hit update evertime I create/change a constraint. But I can try it out and see if it gets rid of this outta the blue delay. (I did notice on the bottom right hand of the screen, there is a green bar graph going in and out as to show its going thru some things...so now I am sure its on inventors side). God I miss solidworks.

are you working localy or on a network.
I have an occasionl issue where Inventor seems to be unresponsive, but it is due to network lag.
you might copy an assembly to your local drive just as a test.

How large and complicated is the converted file? Sounds as though it could be a video card overload. I had a large diesel ship engine that behaved very similar and needed to be simplified to ease the load on the video card.
