HOW... Do I get the scale to change from a .dwg to a .sat (acis)

This seems like it should be sooooo simple, but has got me perplexed.

I have a mold assembly that was sent to me as a ".dwg" file. I clicked on it in Explorer and it opened up in Mechanical Desktop just fine. I should mention that I know nothing about Mechanical Desktop... nor do I care to. Anyway I selected FILE>EXPORT>DESKTOP ACIS, gave it a file name, highlited all the features and saved... This all went fine.

I then opened the ACIS (.sat) file in Inventor, this also went fine, I got the assembly and all the associated parts. BUT when I started working with the Inventor files I noticed that "actual" size of everything was too small... everything was in mm size. I switched to Inches and that went OK BUT the "actual" size was still wrong. All I was able to do was change mm to Inch, but could never change the "actual" size of the part/s. As an example the part in Mechanical Desktop is 8 inches long, but in Inventor it came in as 8mm long, or 0.315 when I switched to inches.

For the life of me I cannot figure out how/where to get Inventor to bring the part in as the correct size (8").

Interestingly, I saved the same drawing from "Mechanical" as a STEP ".stp" file. When I brought the .stp file into Inventor, the size was correct (8"), but all I had was a "dumb solid" (all of the assembly components were bunched together in one big part).

Again... seems like this should be so simple. ANYONE... what am I doing wrong... or better yet how do I do it right?

Appreciate any help.

Regards and THANKS,

Don A 🙂

Search the newsgroup and I think you'll find a solution. This has come up several times.

Edit the .sat file in Notepad. 3rd line, it says 25.3999999999999999999...,
right? Change just that number to 1.00000 (this sets the translation scale). If
it says 1.000000000000,

open the .sat file in notepad, and about the 3rd or forth line down will start with a 1.
Change it to a -1. Then import it.

Thanks guys,

Did a search as suggested and forun this post by Kent.

"Kent Keller

This is a known problem in Acad2004. Open the SAT file in Notepad, and I think it is the
3rd line that starts with a 1 change it to a -1"

I changed the file I was having trouble with to a "-1" as Kent suggested. Seems to now be "fixed".

Here is the edited "3rd line" of my file...

"-1 9.9999999999999995e-007 1e-010" was

"1 9.9999999999999995e-007 1e-010

Dave... did not try your way, as fix'd is fix'd.

Thanks again guys... my sanity has returned (well sorta... still working in Inventor... if ya know what I mean)
