Garbled text worse than ever

See picture in IVCF (!?)
(Autodesk Inventor Customer Files)

I get this very often now, but hardly ever saw it in R6.

Is there any settings in Graphics driver or something that could help?

Running With a Softquadro4 900 XGL, driver Version 40.72 on Windows2000.

What happens if you save? Does it get better?

I have to test more when it happens again, but I have the feeling it
goes away more quickly now. It just went away after printing.

If I remember correctly, In R6 you had to exit and restart IV to make it
go away.

I'll get back to this thread after testing some more.

I am still using the beta (hope the real thing arrives shortly), but I do
frequently have garbled text using a Quadro4 750XGL with the 4072 drivers.
I do find that my clears when I save. Using R6, I had to exit IV and
restart. This is an annoyance, but not a big deal in most of my work.

I have to save the drawing to make it clear up (IV6). A real PITA.

I was hoping that this would be fixed in the next release after IV6. Guess
I was wrong.

A simple save to fix it seems kind of acceptable.
But if anyone have found driver settings or driver versions that
eliminate the problem, then tell us, OK?

I'm running a 750xgl with 41.03, on w2k-SP1&2&3 and have never seen
garbled text in R6. I'll be trying R7 later tonight. Maybe my idw's are
too small and simple to create the problem.

This is more of a guess based on a problem I had in MDT6... Try turning off the Windows setting "Smooth edges of screen fonts" if it's on.
This setting would "grey out" Mtext in MDT6.
Good luck,

What font are you using, I had this withArial Narrow, but it was much better
with arial, I streched it to 80% to give a similar size. If you have time
try it with another font, it may solve the problem

I am using the 4201 drivers and very rarely see garbled text in R6. I
saw no garbled text in the R7 Beta.

Yes, it does get better after a save.

Maybe you guys have the problem properly isolated now, and sp1 will heal
it??????

Thanks a bunch.

I'm sorry, previous post was supposed to be a reply to Kevin....

Are you talking about text style font? (format - text styles...)
One funny thing, I just tested it on a big drawing, and immeniately
after changing text style from arial narrow to arial, the text got
garbled, and I had to do a save to fix it again.

I dont know what to make of that.
Well, doing a save to fix it every time will do for now, while waiting
for SP1 (giggle).

Hi Guys,

I have reported this problem to the developers and they are checking it out.
Maybe you all could test something for me. I resolved the problem by turning
off "Antialiasing", this seemed to resolve the problem with my nVidia
Quadro 2 Pro, but we are still testing this.

Turned "Antialiasing" off on my system. No joy, may even be worse. With it
on, I mainly saw garbled text in the idw's. With it off, I am now seeing it
in the sketch of an ipt as well.

I can get it to display correctly in an idw by saving the file. This is
really annoying when the idw takes 30 seconds to save.

Using a different card (Fire GL2) but here's what I found:
Using the "certified" driver 5.12.2195.2088 text was always garbled until
save & view labels would dissapear at random.
Using the older driver 5.12.2195.2082 these problems do not exist.

I'm using the Fire GL2 with driver 5.12.2195.2088 and haven't had any
garbled text.

Hi Guys,

If you are still having the problem, try the following workaround (should
work for R6 as well, just change the version):

Find or create the following registry entry:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Autodesk\Inventor\RegistryVersion7.0\System\Prefe
rences\Driver

REG_DWORD "Text Options" = 0x00000000

Run Inventor and see if the problem no longer happens.

The Inventor Team would like to find out what is going on.
Please try both of the following one at a time and report to me how well
they worked:
In the user graphics over-ride area set the following new Dword values
Text Options = 0
Workarounds = 40000 (HEX)

Workarounds is a bit wise OR in HEX.. It needs to be ORed with your
existing value. For example,
If your Workarounds = 0080000, the new one is 00C0000.

http://www.autodesk.com/us/inventor/graphic_cards/newsTOC.htm contains
general instructions about the user over-ride graphics settings.

If the changes are correctly made they will show up in the diagnostics
output from the graphics hardware tab. To see the "Text Options" value, you
will have to click OK on the diagnostics display and paste into notepad.

The following workflow seems to trigger this problem.

Open Inventor
Open explorer, select multiple drawings and double click on them, this opens
them in Inventor
When the number of open windows exceeds some point (usually between 15 and
20) the garbled text starts showing up.
Printing the drawings works fine, it appears to be just a display problem.
Doing anything to edit a part of the drawing clears up that portion.
Reducing the number of open windows below the threshold may clearing the
problem.
Closing all open windows does fix the problem until the critical number of
open window is again opened,.

The data in the drawing appears to stay correct al all times.

This is a problem for those who see it. It does not appear to impact a large
number of users. We are working on it.
