Frame Generator BOM QTY and ITEM QTY Issue

Currently, when I use Frame Generator in design, I got an headache to generate BOM.

From the attached PDF file, the QTY column comes the same number as the Part LENGTH ! This is wrong.

From our previous BOM, both in the drawing and the model assembly, this QTY column show the same number as the ITEM QTY.

How can I make the QTY as the equal number as the ITEM QTY in an assembly?

Please advise.

To change existing files:

Open up one of the ipts.  Go to the tools tab and select Document Settings.  From there, click on the Bill of Materials tab.  Look at the Unit Quantity field.  It will say G_L or somthing similar.  Change it to Each.

If you want to change future files made from the content center, I think you can edit the CC family.  Not sure because we have not tried it yet.

Why do you need QTY & Item QTY to be the same?  I ask because there may be times you want to know the total length of a particular profile.  If you want the Item QTY to show in your Parts List, you can edit the parts list to show that column instead of QTY, then just change the parts List column description to Qty.  That way you get the best of both worlds.

Just a suggestion, not really knowing what you are after.  🙂

Hi Swalton,

Thank you for your solution on the parts. It works.

Now the QTY is changed into the same number as the ITEM QTY shows.

It is just the conventional request.

At the post from Swalton, he gives out the solution. And it works perfact.

Cheers !

I don't recommend you do what you did. There are reasons the parts have more than one quantity property.

Hi  WAYNE_HOUWD,

I'm in agreement with cbenner and pauldoubet on this. The solution swalton provided does work, but it will likely create more work for you down stream when using Frame Generator.

Here's a link that illustrates the 4 QTYs avaliable for Inventor components, along with some information on Frame Generator BOMs:

I hope this helps.

Hi Curtis,

Thanks for your advice on Inventor Frame Generator. Now I have generated the collection of those mild steel sections- such tube, angle, bar, and so on. It is very helpful.

On this QTY issue, I am satisfied with all the replies. All of your solutions are very helpful. Very sharp to the questions-straight and direct.

Thanks.

Hi,

Kindly find the link, which is far most easy to solve BOM problem in frame generator

Just update partnumber by the below text and follow the steps in the link

=<stock Number><    > <Mass>

I have also one issue regarding frame generator bill of material.

After creating the frame using frame generator, I am creating a detail drawing.

When I insert the parts list, the info shown the full length of the tubes before it was cut to fit. (i.e the tube length before miter, notch to the edges of frame). The dimension shown in a part list is not a actual frame length dimension. Shown dimension is equal to the reference dimension which we have provide for frame.

Can you post some information or a screen shot of how your parts list is configured?  I need to see what parameters are mapped to the parts list.

If you are using F-G, just include the Columns to your BOM in the IAM file. It will show up in your BOM for the drawing. The fields are already there, it even does the math to roll up the materials.

Hello Sir,

The issue is even if I insert item quantity column in the Bill of material, it does not show exact quantity of the member in frame, instead it just shows "1". I have to manually insert quantity each time I make a BOM.

I appreciate if you could guide me with this.

Message 17 of 18

Hi @naikpravinv.610,

The parts are considered the same item if they have the same part number.

Do the parts that are the same member/size have the same part number?

I hope this helps.
Best of luck to you in all of your Inventor pursuits,

Hi! The quickest way to help experts understand the issue is to provide an example. A few options and workflows could alter the behavior. An image does not provide any actionable information. Please attach the files you have trouble with (or you can send directly to me johnson.shiue@autodesk.com).

Many thanks!
